InferMed and Siemens work together to provide direct data capture from patient records
Today InferMed Ltd announced the successful completion of a direct link via Siemens Medical's OpenLink to InferMed’s MACRO electronic data capture tool.
Making use of Siemens Medical’s OpenLink integration module, the system enables patient information that is requested by a clinical trial protocol but that already exists on a hospital information system containing an electronic patient record (EPR) to be presented to the clinician for inclusion on the appropriate clinical report form. The clinician merely needs to confirm the data is valid and accurate; no retyping of data is needed. The work was presented at the April Meeting of CDISC in Berlin. The first user for the solution, the Technical University of Munich, is expected to start a pilot trial in the next month.
Dr Robert Dunlop, InferMed’s Clinical Director and CDISC representative, said “this work represents an important step forward in two ways. Firstly, it demonstrates InferMed’s commitment to assisting the clinicians. Physicians can collect data within a clinical trial as part of their everyday work. Full integration with EPRs reduces the amount of data entry required by busy clinicians improving the quality and speed of data entry as well as being more cost effective.
Secondly, the work was carried out in compliance with the CDISC standard for data interchange. InferMed is committed to the introduction of standards into the clinical trial process. InferMed also believes that consistency in data collection will help make the data produced from clinical trials more easily available to support best clinical practice.”
