The Arezzo application contains 3 elements - Composer, Tester and Performer:
- The Composer enables authors to rapidly create guidelines and care protocols based on collections of generic task types. A variety of tools are provided to ensure that guidelines can be personalised to individual patients. The Composer also provides facilities for fast user interface prototyping.
- The Tester is used to test the guideline logic before deployment.
- The Performer inference engine, optimised for reliability and speed, runs the guideline and care protocols at the point of patient care, with customisation to each patient. This module allows guidelines to be embedded in existing healthcare systems, linking seamlessly with local Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and other applications to provide patient-specific assistance at the point of care. Guidelines can be validated in pilot studies before entering routine care. Analysis of outcome data provides the basis for continuous improvement.
Arezzo is named in honour of Guido d'Arezzo, the inventor of the musical stave notation (read about Guido d’Arezzo here and is based on the PROforma language, developed at the Cancer Research UK's Advanced Computation Laboratory.
PROforma was awarded the 20th Anniversary Gold Medal of the European Federation of Medical Informatics in 1996. It provided the basis of the “CAPSULE” prescribing aid, awarded the BCS Primary Care Specialist Group's Perry Prize in 1995. Arezzo is a UK registered trademark of InferMed Ltd.
