InferMed Ltd, the leading provider of advanced decision support and data capture solutions for clinical research and practice, today announced that they have partnered with Cogon Systems, Inc. to develop advanced clinical decision support tools for hand held computer use within the U.S. Army’s Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC).

The project will rely upon InferMed Ltd’s Arezzo® technology and Cogon Systems’ Mobile MOMENT OF CARE® Information System. The goal of the project will be to determine whether the use of mobile technology in an inpatient setting to deliver clinical decision support with intelligently filtered clinical knowledge will positively impact patient care while concurrently achieving physician’s acceptance, efficiency and education.

InferMed’s Arezzo® toolset enables the easy design, creation, and execution of personalised clinical guidelines and patient care protocols whilst providing clinicians with clear rationale for clinical decisions for patients with wide ranging symptoms. Delivering a patient specific view of guidelines in complex patient care situations Arezzo steers the user through decision making about the optimum clinical actions to be taken based on local, regional and or national standards. Embedded within Cogon Systems’ Mobile MOMENT OF CARE Information System the combined solution will give mobile access to critical patient information and decision support tools.

Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), in Tacoma, Washington is the site selected for the project. With a beneficiary population exceeding 350,000 within a six-state region, MAMC is to be one of the busiest hospitals in the Pacific Northwest. Occupying more than 120 acres of land, this four-building, $280 million facility houses 232 beds and receives nearly 1 million outpatient visits and over 55,000 inpatient admissions annually. The products will leverage data already residing in the hospital’s information systems, thus preserving existing infrastructure investments.
